THEY ALL CONTRACTED POLIO AS CHILDREN! SEVERAL OF THEM STILL SUFFER THE EFFECTS OF THE DISEASE AS ADULTS.
At its heyday in the US, 35,000 people each year were diagnosed with that dread disease, a disease that Rotary has been an instrumental partner in eliminating worldwide, with the exception of two countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Vigilance must be maintained. The polio virus has been detected in wastewater from New York City and Rockland County, NY in recent years.
If you generally make charitable donations at year's end, please consider making a donation to the Rotary Foundation's Polio Plus efforts. Also......
Can you think of an activity that could morph into a fundraiser for the Foundation's Polio Plus effort? Be creative!...and speak to a Board member with your idea.
