POPS FUNDRAISING UPDATE
2019 Pops

Pops On The Move! netted $16,000. While this amount is below the usual net revenue raised, an exceedingly generous $10,000 anonymous donation covered the deficit and we now have a healthy $26,000 to finance our scholarships and other charitable donations and works.
Thank you so much, anonymous donor. You know who you are.
Thank you to all who worked, or donated, to make Pops On The Move! a success.

FOOD PANTRY GREETINGS AND GRATITUDE
Club President Kathleen Murphy received a very nice letter from the Marblehead Food Pantry Executive Director. Janet Fitch Parker expresses her gratitude for the support our club provides to her organization.
We make an annual cash donation, gather food gifts from our members, participate in the Stamp Out Hunger! food drive, and help during the holidays.
Janet thanked the club for the extra funds ($600) raised in fines and happy dollars to pay for the Thanksgiving and Christmas roasting pans, which due to tariffs on imported aluminum became prohibitively expensive.

FIGHTING DRUG ADDICTION
Bob Erbetta and Mike Elkin are thinking about ways to help our community raise awareness and fight drug addiction. This will be coordinated with the District.
In the meantime, Bob shared a study alerting that marijuana use in adolescence increases risk of depression and suicidality in young adulthood.
“After pooling data from 11 studies of over 23,300 individuals, researchers found that compared to non-users, adolescents who used marijuana were 40% more likely to suffer from depression, 50% more likely to experience suicidal ideation, and 250% more likely to attempt suicide in young adulthood.”
HELPING AUSTRALIANSAFFLICTED BY FIRES

Australian Rotary District Governors established a central fund into which we can donate to support the victims of the devastating bushfires ravaging the country.
An Australian living in Colorado reminisced, in a message to a relative who’s a club member, about her favorite places back home, but quickly realized that… “while I am sitting here writing and my nostalgia sets in, I remember it is not about me at all but of the people fleeing, the uncertainty they feel all the time, the human lives lost, the animal lives lost, the rebuilding of towns and houses only to be nervous of when this will come again.”
