NON-PROFIT OF THE YEAR?
The two Rotary clubs in Marblehead submitted a joint application for the “Non-Profit Organization of the Year Award” given by the Marblehead Chamber of Commerce. A motion approving the application was voted at the Board of Directors meeting, last week.
Also at the Board meeting:
Polio. Polio donations on behalf of guest speakers will be reintroduced.
Bob Wood. A Rotoplast Mission was named after deceased Past District Governor Bob Woods. This is a Rotary International initiative to raise money from Rotary Clubs in the region to create a Robert Woods Memorial. RCOMH just made a donation to Rotoplast in the amount of $600. It was agreed that this could be earmarked for that initiative.
LOA. Leave of absence for Allan ‘Skip’ Dowds was approved at the Board Meeting. He has a new job. Congrats and good luck Skip.
ShelterBox. Kathleen has completed the program to become an Ambassador for Shelter Box, and has chosen Shelter Box as the primary Service Project for her Presidency.

Janet Fitch Parker received a $1,000 donation from RCOMH on behalf of the Marblehead Food Pantry, which she directs. Janet came to the club meeting last week and thanked all Rotarians who generously and continuously help the Pantry with their donations. She is very pleased with the June 18th food drive and says the number of people seeking help dropped last month from a weekly average of 60/70 to about 50. She does not know if this was a one-time episode or the beginning of a trend.

C.A.P.T.S. DONATION
Janet Brings with Past President Michael Cognata

As she received a $250 donation from our club last week C.A.P.T.S. (Calling All Patriots Troop Support) director Janet Brings thanked RCOMH saying “everything helps” when it comes to sending care packages to our troops overseas. Her organization also provides meals to Vets families that have a member serving abroad. C.A.P.T.S. has been prioritizing ground forces, as they are harder to reach then those on U.S. military vessels. It costs $30 to pay for C.A.T.P.S. end of shipping a 12x12x12 box to a US service person.
CLUB BUSINESS
Guest Speakers. Speakers Committee co-Chairs Bill Bartin and Mike Cognata thanked all club members who gave them suggestions. They are cataloguing the names and promise a fun filled guest year. Their work is never done and neither is ours. So please keep the suggestions coming.
Scholarships. Steve Lispky provided an update on the “Upward Bound” 2nd Chance Scholarships. Two persons have applied and the Marblehead Scholarships Board will decide during the month of August who will receive how much.
WELCOMING A NEW MEMBER… TRY AGAIN :)
Young Aycock’s induction as a club member was postponed and will take place this week instead. Young is the founder or Military United Services Inc. and good friend of Seyla Nehan’s who is sponsoring her. Please come to the meeting to welcome Young and show appreciation for her willingness to put service above self.
