Scuttlebutt June 13, 2021
The weekly report is back after a few weeks of vacation.
Thanks to all who kept the club going during the past month. Particularly thanks to John for running the meetings and the board meeting.
This Tuesday we will hear Karyn Lange provide an update of her classification speech. Maybe a few things have changed in the past few years!
Updates: The annual Installation Dinner, will be a zoom event held on June 22 beginning at 6pm. Jessica Barnett is chairing the event. John Williams and Diane Barbour are on the committee. Paul Harris recipients will be honored, the old and new club officers will be thanked and installed, and The Barry Weed Distinguished Service award will be presented. Happy Dollars will support our upcoming district grant submission to support the Lynn Neighborhood Network.
Foundation Committee:
Linda Doliber reported on our district grant involvement with the Lynn Neighborhood Network. We hope to provide a two-door, full-height, glass-front commercial refrigeration unit so that they can distribute fresh milk, vegetables, and meat to their clients in addition to canned and boxed goods. The committee is researching prices so a grant can be submitted July 1, 2021.
Membership Committee
Linda Doliber, Jessica Barnett, Judith Green, and John Williams completed and distributed our new RCOMH membership documents. Linda has been in touch with Jim Rice who we have missed because he is unable to attend zoom meetings because of his work schedule. He hopes to return to meetings when we meet in person again. A focus during the summer and fall will be to increase our membership. We will discuss our goals soon.
Scholarship Committee
The club has given Marblehead students scholarships. Thanks to the committee for reviewing the 20 applicants and choosing the students who embody what we espouse to.
Allocations
The Allocations committee will be chaired by Diane Barbour. We are in good a financial position so we will be able to provide support to some worthy organizations.
Heidi Whear is exploring a Rotary grant to support Sea Glass Village office expenses and set-up costs. Joan McCormack is involved with the National Hearing- Impaired Grant for Guatemala.
2021 Holiday Pops Concert
Diane Barbour has reserved Abbot Hall for the 2021 Holiday Pops concert. Dirk Hillyer with his orchestra will be happy to be involved again. We are in the process of inviting an artist to participate. We need to decide if we want to have more than one type of presentation.
