Scuttlebutt 12/20/20

Welcome to a holiday week for some of us.  Please be careful in gatherings.  The virus is getting closer and more prevalent.  We all need to be careful.  Enjoy as you celebrate but be aware of the insidious nature of the virus.

A new shipment of notecards has arrived.  Linda D will wrap the cards, then they will be available for you to purchase to give as holiday gifts or for your own communications.

This Tuesday Cindy Delpappa will share with us information on Water Cleanup.  As we enter a new administration that will focus more on environmental issues this discussion seems important.

We will not have a meeting during the week between Christmas and New Years.  While we are away from each other please think about how we can as individuals and as a club live our motto “Service Above Self”.  There are many ways that we as a club can work within our town and our area to provide service.  We need to be creative in how we provide that service given the increase in covid illness.  On our Service committee that was shared in the summer are:  Peter, Bob E, Judith G, Tim H, Heidi W, and Lenny. Who else would like to be in this group helping us as a club live our motto?  Please let me know if changes to the group are needed either additions or deletions.  At an early meeting, the service committee discussed having each member be a liaison to one or more organizations such as the COA, Female Humane Society, Food Pantry, METCO, and others that we have supported in the past. That way we will have a better understanding of needs that we might be able to address.
I would like us to establish a goal that by our club assembly January 12th we will have two service projects we can commit to during the rest of winter into spring. Suggestions that our consistent with who we are as a club: 1. provide tutoring or homework help to relieve parents, 2. “adopt an elder or person”, this may be making calls, delivering cookies etc.  Other ideas?  With all the need we must help.
